Pupil Premium (including recovery premium)
The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools by the government to help reduce the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. The aim is to ensure that every child, regardless of their background or financial circumstances, has equal access to high-quality teaching and the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Schools receive Pupil Premium funding for pupils who:
- are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM)
- have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as Ever 6)
- are looked-after children or have been adopted from care
- have parents currently serving in the armed forces (Service Premium)
The funding is used to support pupils in a variety of ways, including:
- providing targeted academic support and interventions
- improving attendance, engagement, and wellbeing
- increasing access to enrichment opportunities
- ensuring the highest quality of teaching for all pupils
Pupil premium is not a personal budget for individual pupils, and schools do not have to spend pupil premium so that it solely benefits pupils who meet the funding criteria.
At Woodland Middle School, we carefully plan how this funding is used, basing our decisions on research, pupil needs, and ongoing evaluation. Our Pupil Premium Strategy outlines the actions we take each year to support our disadvantaged pupils and close achievement gaps.
