A values based school

World of Woodland Issue 57

Just enough time in this busiest of all weeks to write home for one final time this year. Our 190 days of educating pupils this year comes to a close and the thousands of lessons taught, the variety of trips, the visitors, the assemblies, the clubs, the interactions in corridors, form rooms, play times have ALL played their part in the progress your child(ren) have made both academically and personally (values).

We are so proud of our pupils’ progress in academic and personal values which is why we invest time and cash in events like the amazing Mary Poppins, the summer concert and the Prom Night. If you came to any of these spectacles you will have left with a buzzing sense of community and fun! Thank you to Mrs Hardacre and team for putting such a brilliant show, to Miss Bryan for the amazing summer concert and to the PTA and Year 8 staff for arranging the prom night.

Our Twitter account @WoodlandAcademy has video footage of the amazing motorbike cavalcade that accompanied one Y8 pupil to prom as well as load of images from the Y8 leavers’ assembly, Mary Poppins, the summer concert and the final performance of “Salut” singing Livin’ on a Prayer in our closing assembly today.

Prom Night last night was a huge success – parents of Y8 pupils that attended can access the photos by visiting https://we.tl/G2Y5pGkdXn and using the password that was sent to you all by text. Ask another Y8 parent if you missed it OR email me on conquestj@woodlandacademy.co.uk

Hopefully the Y8 pupils that have gone to Thorpe Park today have a great day on the back of a great experience at Prom last night!

At the end of term we do have to say goodbye to Y8 every year but also to a few pupils in other years too – we would like to wish those pupils all the best at their new schools – but also to some staff too. To our departing trio of Teaching Assistants Mrs Sammons, Miss Blake and Ms Banks – all the very best to you in your new ventures, thank you so much for your hard working contribution especially on behalf of our must vulnerable pupils within the SEN department. To our trip of departing teachers too; Mrs Barret who has covered two maternity leaves for us, to Mrs Brandon who has taught within our Y5 team for the past two years and to Mr Littler stalwart of our Science department for the past decade – our sincerest best wishes to you all in your new roles and thank you so much for your expert contributions at Woodland in your time with us.

And finally…my personal thanks to all the pupils (for making my year as enjoyable, rewarding and challenging as a job can be!), to the staff (for being a great team, a diligent professional one too & a pleasure to come to work with) and to you the parents (for being highly supportive and valuing our efforts in service to the community). Everyone needs a summer break…let the six weeks begin today! Have fun, stay safe and come back in September ready to learn even more!
