World of Woodland Issue 41

This month’s value is: TOLERANCE

This is the long awaited PGL week for Y6, most of the year group are in Devon for the week enjoying the early sum- mer sunshine and an array of activities from swimming in their outdoor pool, raft building, zip wire, quad-biking, ab- seiling and archery. The remainder of the pupils in Y6 have already been to the Space Centre (Leicester) this week and are now enjoying water sport at Willen Lake. You can follow all the trips by following our Twitter feed
@WoodlandAcademy . I’ve posted a few photos below.

Before this adventure week, which marks the transfer from Primary to Secondary education (seamlessly in a Middle School!) we have experienced two “stressful” weeks at Woodland! Firstly the SATs that really do cause unnecessary anxiety for our 11-year olds, high-stakes exams for schools because of the Government accountability measures and then our Ofsted inspection last week too! We won’t find out the SATs results until early July but we do know the outcome of our Ofsted inspection, but can’t say until the report is published in early June. But we are really pleased with the outcome and we know you will be too. Thank you to all the 250+ parents that responded to the online ques- tionnaire – your support and comments, the emails that were sent in and the letters written were all very helpful and in many cases very touching. One of the headlines in the parent survey was that 87% of respondents would recommend the school, which we are told is high - but we do want to reach out to the 13%. Never hesitate to contact me directly with your query or concern on conquestj@woodlandacademy.co.uk and I can do my best to answer or re- solve the matter.

I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to all the hikers that undertook the Timberland Trail 25km challenge last weekend – the sponsorship is starting to roll in now which is great; we are hoping to reach £3000 for Hand in Hand Ethiopia to help fund their shower block building project in Addis. The charity have sent their congratulations too on their Face- book page which can be accessed via www.handinhandethiopia.org

Our PTA are in the midst of planning the Summer Fayre – please look out for the raffle tickets to purchase and if you can volunteer to run a stall, please do get in touch with the school office@woodlandacademy.co.uk .

The final half term is always exciting – lots of events and activities planned. I have listed key dates below, however a comprehensive list can be found on the website. One change to the plan is the Y7 Warwick Trip which is no longer taking place as it has in the past. Our trips do change from time to time with new ones added and old ones changed. The History and Geography departments have been running a KS3 G&T group all year and it will be this group that will be taken to Warwick. I know that some Y7 pupils were looking forward to this trip but we will be adding a ‘fun’
day out for all of Y7 next half term. We did use a Twitter poll to put out ideas and Chessington World of Adventures came top. We are looking into it…watch this space.

Key dates for next half term include:
June 8th - Y8 Leavers’ photos
June 10th - Flitwick Carnival
June 12th - Fathers’ Day pop-up shop
June 12th - Non-uniform day for Summer Fayre
