World of Woodland Issue 30
Next month’s value is: CO-OPERATION
Firstly, thank you so much to all the parents who came along to support the Fun Run last week, it means so much to our pupils to know that they are being cheered along. It’s a good opportunity for catching up with other parents too of course! Please do keep the sponsorship rolling in for the PTA – we have lots of extra items to purchase for the pupils this year, so it’s all for a great cause. The fancy dress winning runners are pictured – we’ll sort the prizes out next week.
This week we’ve had about 60 families, mostly with Y5 children, touring the school to see us in operation on a working day. It’s been a complete pleasure showing you around and thank you to those who took the time to email us your thoughts – it was lovely to have great feedback. We will be sending out a questionnaire via the post to all the parents who came in for some quality feedback. If any parents missed the opportunity, we are always happy to offer a tour, so do let us know if you’d like one in the future.
Our Maths team are putting on a SATs preparation evening on Monday 3rd October – an event that is hugely beneficial for all parents of Y6 pupils to attend. We will be showing parents exactly how we teach mathematical processes and how you can support your child to attain the National Expected Standards in next May’s SATs exams. The session starts at 5.30pm – if you can let us know you’re coming by either returning the reply slip on Monday or by emailing Mr Lambert, the head of Maths, on email@example.com
Next week is our Y5 Zoo trip to Whipsnade and, although we do use the trip within the curriculum and take advantage of the experience, it is also a great opportunity for our newest pupils to gel in an ‘out of class’ shared experience. Hopefully we’ll have great weather for the trip. If you have any questions about the day please email the trip leader, Miss Bryan on firstname.lastname@example.org
We are holding our first parents’ evening - the meet the form tutor event – on October 13th. Bookings for your appointment should be made online. By now you should have received a letter with the details of how to login and make the booking. If you have any problems please contact our IT manager, Mr Griffin, on email@example.com . This evening is especially popular with Y5 parents and those that have a form tutor who is new to the school. There should be plenty of bookable slots BUT don’t be the last to book, as choice will then be limited.
Our school car park barrier is now in full operation. The current ‘barrier down’ times are from 08:00 to 16:00 on weekdays and at night. Outside these times there is open access to the car park – so collecting from after school clubs is still easy. The local traffic enforcement officers have been operating in Kendal Drive on a number of occasions so Tesco is the best option for parking at drop off/pick up times to make the exit from school safer and calmer for our pupils. Thank you for changing your routines.
And finally…we are heading into Autumn now so please do send in your child with a rain coat as we do like to get them outside to play, even in drizzle! Also, a note for the diary is the Hallowe’en disco on October 20th – letters come out just the day before.
Many thanks for your generosity
We raised £192 from the sale of tea and cake on Fun Run day for MacMillan.
A request from local residents
May we respectfully ask that parents remind their children that footpaths should not be used for cycle races!
Stanley Pattison, 7SLS, was lucky enough to have a flying lesson at Goodwood over the Summer holidays—he flew for approximately an hour and a half over Portsmouth in a Cessna 146, in reward for the hard work he had put in with his tutor!
