World of Woodland Issue 15
This month’s value is: Happiness
Our final week of the year has arrived and that excitement caused by the summer holidays arriving is also tinged with sadness that another year has passed and many of our pupils will be leaving us for Redborne. It is important that pupils feel ready to move on but the journey from Y5 to Y8 is such a significant one from having pupils that have literally just learnt to tie their shoe laces to the young people that arrived for their Prom last night, looking so grown up.
It always amazes me that we as a school can nag about looking smarter all year and then without prompting the same pupils appear in such finery on their last day! A few highlights below from last night’s prom arrival cavalcade.
Our Y8 pupils are today at Thorpe Park or in some cases enjoying an extra day of the summer holiday -I would like to wish them all an amazing day, a wonderful holiday and a brilliant time at their new Upper School. We will be looking out for those GCSE results in 2022!
Our CHUMS charity walk was unavoidably postponed early this month and we will plan a new date for September. Our apologies for the inconvenience. Pupils in Y8 currently who wanted to take part will be invited to get involved too. The CHUMS charity is very deserving and we would like to raise some much needed cash for them still.
The House Cup Championship was won this Year by Vikings, for the second year running. Well done to Team Yellow as the winning total was amassed by good values, hard effort, excellent participation and of course sporting prowess. Congratulations.
Our Y5 trip to Boulogne was another successful cross-channel event with such wonderful weather and so much to cram into a long day. Visiting Nausicaa, the old town and the wonderful beach all make for a brilliant adventure at the end of the first year at Woodland. Thanks to Mrs Hardacre and the Y5 team for leading the trip.
Yesterday was our Y8 Leavers’ Assembly which is a celebration of the 4 years at Woodland and includes many prizes being handed out. Below are a selection of the pupils that were awarded prizes -we are so proud of all our pupils and I know that parents were bursting with pride too.
I’d also like to credit our battle of the bands winners 8AB with their amazing “Walking on Sunshine” cover that has even been praised in a tweet by the original composer of the song Kimberely Rew, the guitarist from Katrina and the Waves!! Well done Miss Bryan and the band members!!
And finally...to all our pupils and parents; have a fantastic holiday –after working hard you deserve the summer with your families. To our staff; a fantastic team to work with and so hard working and supportive –thank you so much, enjoy your deserved holiday.
