WORLD OF WOODLAND ISSUE 42
This month’s value is: HONESTY
As wonderful as summer is, today is one of the hottest days we’ve had in school! As temperatures are expected to be above 30 degrees today we have relaxed the uniform rules for pupils and staff, encouraging our pupils to wear their school PE kit (not mufti) and of course come to school complete with water bottles, sunscreen and hats. We will use the text message service each morning IF we use the ‘relaxed’ uniform rule in future.
Lots has happened since our last World of Woodland edition (just before half term) including the Y7 Harry Potter trip, the Y5 trips to Poplars Eco-centre, the Annie float at the Carnival and our Summer Fayre (pictures overleaf). Thank you to Miss Bryan/Ms Gibson for planning the Harry Potter event, to Mrs Scarr for the Poplars trips and to Mrs Hardacre and Ms Bryan for the Carnival float. Our Annie cast won first prize too – so well done to all the cast who sang their hearts out despite the technical difficulties we experienced with the lorry and its electrics. Below are a few photos that show some of the excitement of the events.
A huge thank you to all the staff and parents that supported the PTA Summer Fayre last Friday. We had great weather, a huge turn out and hope to have made in excess of £2000 for the PTA to reinvest in your children at Woodland. We will need some new PTA committee members for 2017-18 as we have a few mainstays of the com- mittee leaving, with their youngest children moving on to Upper School. If you’d like to help out in an increased ca- pacity next year – please contact me directly on conquestj@woodlandacademy.co.uk .
This week we have a few exciting events taking place, including our Sports Days (KS2 on Weds and KS3 on Thurs) with the Y5 Boulogne Trip on Friday. Being prepared for thirsty weather is a real priority! Hopefully all Y5 parents have received the final arrangements letter from me for this Friday – yes that really is a 4am departure!
Also this week, our pupils will get the choice of lots of activities to take part in for our annual values day. The activi- ties are either half or whole day options and range from sports, creative arts, hiking to blogging. The activities are designed so that our pupils and staff have great opportunities to demonstrate the school’s and their own personal positive values.
There are a few teaching personnel changes for September . Mrs Tate has returned to Woodland after her maternity leave and is covering Mrs Brandon’s timetable whilst she extends her teaching studies at Russell Lower School.
Mrs Tate will be officially leaving at the end of the term BUT will be back later in the year in her capacity as a Safe- guarding Officer supporting Mr New (our Safeguarding Lead). Mrs Andrews is reducing her hours to part-time from September and will be passing on her Modern Foreign Languages Leader responsibilities to Mrs MacLennan who with us in September. Mrs McGregor is retiring at the end of the term and will pass on the responsibility of her De- sign Technology department to Mr Tate who, in turn, will be supported from September by a new colleague, Mrs Davies-Smith. Mr Matias has been promoted to become part of the Leadership Group in a Senior Teacher role, taking on responsibility for the Pupil Premium Grant and the progress of disadvantaged pupils.
Y7 Pupils have been offered a new trip to Chessington World of Adventures this term – we had hoped for a greater response but appreciate that the cost may be off-putting. We have now had nearly 100 out of the 165 pupils sign up but have extended the deadline to make sure that no-one misses out. If you would like your child to come along on July 6th – please get the return slip back to us.
And finally…a belated Happy Father’s day to all the dads out there, hope that your BBQ fuelled weekends all went well!
Notice from the kitchen:
Dear Parent/ carers
As you are aware AIP changed the payment method at Woodlands after the Easter Holiday to a cashless system; now it is up and running it is working well. The system is set at a £5 maximum spend per day but if you wish this can be changed and be set at whatever you wish. We will be no longer accepting cash for individual items but if you do not want to set up a parent pay account then you will be able to send a minimum of £15 cash to the kitchen and it
will be added to your child’s account. If you have not set up a finger print or pin for your child or would like to contact the kitchen about any of the above you can email the kitchen directly at
