About Governance

As an Academy Trust, we are governed by a Board of Directors.  This group of people is made up of a non-executive Chairman, a range of local business people, community representatives, parent representatives and staff representatives

The Directors are accountable to external government agencies including the Charity Commission and the Department for Education for the quality of the education they provide and they are required to have systems in place through which they can assure themselves of quality, safety and good practice.

As a charity and company limited by guarantee, Woodland Middle School Academy is governed by a Board of Directors who are responsible for and oversee the management and administration of the Company.

There is one committee: The Finance and Premises Committee.  The committee report into the full Board of Directors.  Meetings for the committee are termly and the full Board meet half termly and minutes of the meetings are available.

The core functions of the Board of Directors are:

  • Holding the Principal and other senior leadership to account for the educational performance of the Academy and its students;
  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Overseeing financial performance of the Academy by making sure its money is well spent.
